I'm sitting at SYS-CON's Virtualization Conference in NYC, listening to the
Keynote by Sun VP of Global Systems Engineering, Dr. Hal Stern. Dr. Stern is
talking about the future of virtualization and service-oriented architectures
(SOA). He described the move toward more dynamic architectures, with faster
development cycles, more user-generated content, and increased leveraging of
open source technologies.
He identified some of the challenges that people and organizations are facing
and will face in the move to this new model, including security and trust,
issues with managing growing data centers, and long-term information
sustainability. He also identified the fact that increasingly so, consumers
are becoming creators. Just look at Wikipedia, Youtube, MySpace, etc. All of
these are based completely on the content generated by its users.
